I want to thank those who answered my question about damaged books. Many agreed that milk crates can be brutal to the corners of books. My question about the student who wrote on the front pages of a brand new book and erased the markings might have been a bit confusing. Everyone said damaged books are paid for just as if the book was lost. But this book is still very usuable. It was the idea that this student was the first to check out this brand new book and brought it back in less than pristine condition (a younger child at home got hold of the book and did the "drawing" in the book). Should the student face some sort of punishment (financial or some other kind) for allowing this to happen? Any suggestions? Jeanna Dennis, LMS C.F.
