Wow, It took only 45 minutes to get the correct answer. Thanks ever so much. I am impressed by the helpfulness of this group. My memory is refreshed, Ernest is the elephant, George is the goat, Leonard is the lion and James is the very small snail. James spends a lot of time traveling to the end of his brick. This poem is found in "When We Were Very Young" . It is a great read aloud for creative dramatics, I use a table for the brick. Younger students, especially the boys, enjoy being Ernest and Leonard.
