LM_NETTERS, I searched the U.S. Copyright Web site but did not find a specific answer to this question: Are bibliographies protected under copyright law? A friend is giving a workshop and wants to distribute a bibliography that was part of the book she used as a resource. I'm sure she can't photocopy the actual bibliography from the book, but can she give the bibliographic information for the resources the book uses in its bibliography (essentially, she would be retyping the bibliography). The U.S. Copyright Website states that readily available information, such as calendars, charts in public documents, etc. are not protected. Is it hairsplitting to say that bibliographic information is readily available, public information and is not protected, or do we take into consideration that the author of the book compiled a bibliography of sources used in the creation of the book and that therefore the bibliography is protected by copyright law? Thanks in advance.
