Hello, This is my first year at this particular K-12 one room library. The collection has basically been split 1/2 on one side of the room and 1/2 on the other. Sort of K-6(7)ish and 7-12ish. It does need a bit of rearranging, but here's the question: The Harry Potter books have apparently always been on the K-7 side of the library. Often the 1st-2nd graders will take one home. I do mention that he/she might want a book where he/she could read most of the words. They usually say that a parent will read it to them. If the student is "adament" about keeping the book, I simply check it out. A first grade teacher said that she did not want her class to check out Harry Potter because the books don't get read. I told her that it was not really my place to refuse a child a book as long as it was age appropriate in content, etc. For example, I don't allow the 1st graders to go to the senior high section and choose books. Would you refuse to check out HP in this case? TIA.
