"I want to build a special collection of Women's Studies books for my
high school library, grades 10-12. If you have suggestions let me know
and I'll share them with the group."
Thank you to everyone who responded!

You might wish to take a look at the Women'sStudies bibliographies built

up
by the Women's Studies Section at ALA
http://www.library.wisc.edu/libraries/WomensStudies/core/coremain.htm

One of my favorite 'Women's Studies' books is "Herland" by Charlotte
Perkins Gilman. She also
wrote a wonderful short story called "The Yellow Wallpaper".
"Herland" is about an all-female country discovered by some men around
the time of World War I,
and how they come to terms with "traditional" male and female roles.
My daughter read this book when she was in high school (as a free choice

book) and loved it. She
has recommended it to several of her friends. It's a fairly short book,

but brings up lots of discussion
and thought about what it means to be a 'woman' or 'man'. "The Yellow
Wallpaper" also brings up
those kinds of discussions, but can lead to a very negative view of the
way women were treated
around 1900.

Not for Ourselves Alone: Ward and Burns
Everything you need to know about the Riot GRRLS movement:Cherie Turner
I have many of these books dispersed through the collection, not
isolated to
Women's
Studies unless that is their primary purpose.

Evans, Sara M. _Born for Liberty: a History of Women in America_.

I've been working on this somewhat, too. I've found that the single
most important title to have
in your collection, being the basis for much of what was written in the
1960s is A vindication of
the rights of woman by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley. Written in 1792,
she advocates for
women. . . property ownership, educational rights, free love, among
other things.
This is available full text online if you want to preview. I have a
hard copy in my library and it's
constantly checked out.

Here are suggestions from our collection. Some may be out of print.
