Twenty-five years ago I taught in a small rural school in Wisconsin. When
spring finally came (late April or early May) we would often have LONG (an
hour or more) kickball games at noon. The principal was the permanent
pitcher, the teams were the 5th and 6th grades against the 7th and 8th
grades. The other two teachers and I would sit on the grass, each of us
covered in kids from grades 1-4.

Today, if I would be so forgetful as to get down on the ground, it would
take a crane to get me back up, and there is no way my aching knees could
take the weight of that many kids. Oh, for the good old days!

Now I just have a sixth grader who wants to give me hugs. From behind.
Around my neck. Hmmm, I wonder if he is trying to tell me something.

Happy Thanksgiving.
