I'm still very new, but last week a 1st grader said he
definitely brought that book back the week before. I said
"sorry honey, it hasn't been checked in, go check the
shelf," and I told him where it should be. He simply had
to be allowed to check out another book, but I told him
not until he found that one. I told him to check his
classroom and at home and we'd watch for it here. His
teacher sent him and two other students to search my
library for that book, (while I had a class of 6th
graders) which they did not find. But, really, he turned
it in! They knew it. They saw it. Well, of course the
first thing he asked when he got here today was "Did you
find my book?" I checked, no. One half day a week, I have
the luxury of having an aide to do checkouts, so I went
with his class when they left and we searched the
classroom. There it was in the teacher's classroom books.
:sigh: Up until then, it was all my fault that he couldn't
check out another book, of course.
