Hello Francis! I am now working as a public library librarian and have planned the following for CBW (which could be done in the school setting!): I have invited guest readers to visit the library to read during special storytimes (a police officer; a Spanish speaking patron who will read in Spanish and English and then teach a simple nursery rhyme/song in Spanish to the people who attend; I've invited a school librarian, but you could invite your local library's children's librarian!). We are asking all of our patrons, regardless of age, what their favorite childhood book is/was. I plan to display those that are named several times, if they are in print, as well as make an alphabetical display of the books mentioned (I hope to get at least one book/author for every letter of the alphabet!). It is amazing how people will open up and talk about what they have read as a child! We are also raffling off several book packages easy, juv. fic. for girl and juv. fic. for boy with some book character stuffed figures thrown in (my Friend's group--and maybe your PTO--is underwriting the cost of the items, and I hope to make enough money to cover the costs of the raffle---I have a small library that does not have a lot of money!) I did a Google.com search for CBW and one of the websites that came up has suggestions to celebrate CBW as well as a color page that may be printed out and given to kids to color (sorry, I am at home, so I do not know the URL!). I am hosting a storytime where I will read MY favorite children's books! Hope this helps stir up your creative juices!
