Dear Sue -
Beyond the first three digits, I don't have time to worry about the location
of each and every book. Each shelf is marked with a topic (DINOSAURS or
CAREERS) and the kids use those tags to find the books they want.
In the scheme of things, using full Dewey number is about 1,432 on my list
of Things to Do.
My easy books are on the shelves by the first letter of the author's name.

I'd be interested in knowing what other elementary libraries do about this.
I am in a school of 600 students/82 faculty first thru third grade. I teach
30 classes a week, 35 minutes a period, plus do bus or breakfast duty and
maintain the copier, maintain the AV equipment and laminator, purchase
/repair /delete for our book collection, supervising a 3 hour a day aide,
acting as district chair for the media centers, and whatever else gets
thrown at me.
(Whoops! Sounds like I am complaining...must be too much Halloween...)
