I'm so frustrated I could cry. After months of trying to install AR's =
BookGuide version 2.2 with no luck, our tech department finally got the =
2.3 version installed and semi-working. However, after importing into the =
program our MARC records and AR quiz list, I discovered a massive problem.
You can search within the program using "Have quiz, don't have book" as an =
option. When I did this, I noticed a gross error - it listed over 1900 =
quizzes that we have that we don't have the book for. This is not right; =
the number is more like 100-200. After talking with a few AR techies, we =
determined that because my MARC records don't match up EXACTLY with their =
quiz title, it doesn't count as a valid hit, and the program thinks we =
don't have the book.
We get our MARC records from vendors, who often put a slash or period =
after title or author. However, because of that and other minute details, =
the title won't match up. Since the program cannot be put on networks, =
this means I would have to manually mark in the program 1700+ books to =
correct the search results...on 30+ computers. In addition, I would have =
to do this each and every time we get new books and MARC records from =
vendors.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem with BookGuide? Do you have =
words of wisdom and/or comfort for me? Please contact me off the =
