Here are the responses. Thanks to Paula, Frederick, John, Sybil, and Jean Part of it would depend on the focus of the book. Is the book focusing on the terrorism or on the attack on the US? For the most part we are using the Dewey for George Bush's presidency which is the history number for this time period which would be 973.931. We are also assigning the actual subject for the attacks as prescribed by the Library of Congress and we using it also for Sears as we don't know what Sears will do with theirs quite yet. That heading is September 11 Terrorist Attacks, 2001. *************** try this web site authorities.loc.gov ***************** Here is how one of my Sept 11 books is catalogued: TITLE: Attack on America : the day the Twin Towers collapsed / Mary Gow. SUBJECT: Terrorism--New York (N.Y.) ************************* I went into the site http://www.loc.gov/catdir/pcc/tentative/ and this is pertaining to subject headings only and is not the DDC number as far as I can see .Check this site out. I looked at www.titlewave.com (follett) and DDC depends on the book for example: 1)author Shields, Charles J., 1951- Title The 1993 World Trade Center bombing / Charles J. Shields ; introductory essay by Jill McCaffrey. Publisher Chelsea House, Philadelphia : c2002. Description 120 p. : ill. ; 25 cm. Classifications Nonfiction Dewey 364.1 2)title 9-11 emergency relief / editor Jeff Mason. Publisher Alternative comics, Gainesville, FL : c2002. Description 189 p. : ill. ; 26 cm. Classifications Nonfiction Reviews Booklist 02/15/02 Library Journal 03/15/02 School Library Journal 04/01/02 Voice of Youth Advocates (V.O.Y.A.) 04/01/02 Notes A collection of comis strips by various artists which portray the events following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. Subjects September 11 Terrorist Attacks, 2001 Comic books, strips, etc. Terrorism Comic books, strips, etc. Comic books, strips, etc. Dewey 741.5 **************************** most of the ones coming out of the book vendors have 973.931 as the Dewey. Which places it in the appropriate place for the United States history items. If it's more about the city of new york and what happened there, then it's a 974.7 number. It will depend on the table of contents and where it would be most useful in your collection. ************************** ***************************************** Marcia Dressel, Librarian dressel@osceola.k12.wi.us Osceola Elementary School 715-294-3457 ext 309 Osceola Intermediate School 715-294-2800 ext 493 PO Box 128 Osceola, WI, USA 54020-0128 ***************************************** =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
