It specifically mentions students not having a depth of reading. One thing
I notice as I WEED out books from the 60's & 70's is that the DEPTH is
there in the older nonfiction books; many of today's books are decidedly
different in format. While I do like the colorful pictures, etc., of the
newer books, the amount of data presented is usually SUBSTANTIALLY less.
Today's elementary students may be reading the same *number* of books, but
they are often not reading (or at least aren't exposed to)the same amount
of words and depth of data that students in the 50's/60's/70's were.

This is one *beef* I have about book series created for (at least, it seems
they may be created for the tests, not the other way around!) some
electronic reading management programs - they seem to be *light* on depth
of information. After all, there are only ten questions asked, right? Just
an observation. . .
