I am one librarian and I have two libraries - one is intermediate (grades= 4-6) and the other is junior high (grades 7-9). I alternate days with th= e assistant. I work 2 1/2 days in each building. On the days I am at one = library, the assistant is at the other library. There is not an assistant= that stays at one school and I do the floating. Next school year I will = also have two libraries, but one will be k-3 and the other 4-6 in the sam= e district, trading the junior high for the elementary. I have taught 17 = years but have been a librarian only since January a year ago, so my libr= ary experience is limited. =20 I was wondering if anyone has experienced this before and has any advice = for me on the advantages or disadvantages of alternating days versus spen= ding 1/2 day every day at both schools. The schools are only one block ap= art so there is no time lost in traveling from one to the other. =20 Some of my problems include: being out of the loop in many aspects of sch= ool life (those things that help you be tuned in and know how to make the= library included); being available for teachers/students every other day= ; keeping track of work that needs to be done at either library; working = with a class more than one day in a row (I have to rearrange the weeks sc= hedule to get two days in a row), etc. I don't want to sound complainy, I have just been thinking if I should ch= ange this pattern for the elementary. Any thoughts? Please contact me off= the list. Thanks in advance the for great ideas!!
