Re: ALA membership

For what it's worth.

I think ALA is too expensive, also. The cost is out of sync with library
media specialist salaries. My other professional organizations are much
more reasonable; they are ISTE at $65/yr and International Alliance for
Invitational Education at $35/yr. Now that I am older, I can afford to
join ALA. As a young mother raising children, it was impossible.

Yes, we have a responsibility to contribute to our profession, but our
professional organizations need to also remember their responsibilities
to assist all of us. I would welcome less expensive fees for ALA. I
wonder if it would increase the number of members.
