Thank you to all who responded to my request for an online Children's Lit. course. I'm going to be taking the one from University of N. Iowa - seemed to be just what I needed. Below are the responses: 1. The Univerisity of N. Iowa has a new class beginning this fall. The catalog is here: <A HREF="http://www.uni.edu/profdev/catalog.html">http://www.uni.edu/profdev/catalog.html</A> 2. Suite101 University Getting a Grip on Children's Lit http://www.suite101.com/course.cfm/17939/overview/461636 3. LIS 5564 Information Needs of Children (3) Materials for children in relation to their needs, interests, and abilities. Evaluation and use of printed and audiovisual materials. www.lis.fsu.edu 4. I'd like to recommend the online course, EDUP336 - Children's Literature with Joyce Martin. I took it through the University of Maine at Augusta Distance Education program. I think that Martin's home base is actually at the Southern Maine campus. This course is offered several times a year. I really enjoyed the class. 5. The University of South Florida in Tampa has an ALA-certified School of Library Science, which offers many online courses. The one you would probably be interested in is called Materials for Children. (There is another course called Books and Related Materials for Young Adults, aimed more at middle and high school children.) These are graduate level courses, so the cost is about $600 for a 3-credit hour course. The SLIS website is http://www.cas.usf.edu/lis/ If you click on the drop-down menu at the right of the page, you can access course descriptions and course offerings for the fall. I just took the Materials for Children course (I'm working on my Masters) and it has a substantial focus on multicultural literature. 6. I am a librarian with 27 graduate hours from UNT - University of North Texas in Denton. I have taken all of the classes online with only having to go to Denton for a few days. They offer a wonderful Children's Lit - SLIS 5420. The link is http://www.unt.edu/slis/ . Also here is a link to the Spring 2003 Syllabus for that class <A HREF="http://webct.unt.edu/public/SLIS5420BS11/index.html"> http://webct.unt.edu/public/SLIS5420BS11/index.html</A> Debbie Beaudry Media Specialist Cholee Lake Elementary School Greenacres, FL MrsBeaudry@aol.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=- All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
