I would appreciate any information available regarding the Linux operating system discussed in the April 2003 issue of School Library Journal. Due to budget considerations, we are considering utilizing it, as we automate for the first time. The article mentioned that Follett doesn't have a Linux version of its system, but they are working on that. Does anyone know if that is a reality yet? Has anyone taken advantage of the Linux system's availability and non-price with anything other than Follett? What are the plus sides of it; what are its limitations? I had the complete Follett package with Windows database in a previous school and was generally happy with it. Would Linux be a drastic downgrade in quality/features? We had hoped to purchase the Follett Alliance Plus program, but have reservations about being able to use it with Linux. Thank you for any advice or references you can give.
