third grade orientation

Hello Friends,

I am a brand-new media specialist.  I got my MLIS this month and am working
in two elementary schools one k-2 and the other 3-5.

I am looking for some help with a library orientation program for the new
third graders in the 3-5 school.  I was thinking in terms of scavenger hunt,
but am happy to do anything that would work.  Does any one have a sample of
something or an idea that has worked well for them?  Also any suggestions
for any books that would be good read-alouds for 3rd, 4th or 5th graders on
first day of school/library themes.
