Dear Emily
That is the series and I am so glad you let us know because it has been
bothering me.  I could remember it clearly as I deliberately sought the
sequels out from the public library once I had read the first one. They are
set in Belfast, Northern Ireland during the height of the violence there and
are really good reads.

They would serve as a very good starting point for any conversation about
the impact of religious differences, even moreso because they are "historic"
(although the situation still exists} and would therefore be more objective
and less sensitive than any set in more recent times.  In other words, the
kids could explore the issues without feeling that they were necessarily the
subject of them.

A Google search brings up a number of hits but this looks like the most
useful.
