From recent experience (happily now coming to an end) I can confirm what the public health folks are saying: this year's flu shot does NOT catch some strains that are going around. My doctor's office has been seeing a lot of folks (including me) with one of those strains. If you think you may be coming down with the flu despite a flu shot, see your doctor pronto. Complications include bronchitis and even pneumonia, and convulsive coughing sprays that virus everywhere. Folks working in public places have to be especially careful. By the way, my doctor advises getting lots of protein, as it helps recovery. But the loss of appetite that goes with this flu makes that difficult.
