As always the LM_NET community has come through with suggestions.
Thanks to all those who sent me suggestions.

Here are the suggestions:

Highsmith has a footrest : Item #17944:
 www.highsmith.com search for footrest
 =20
Demco has two - for less cost, also:
 www.demco.com search for footrest.

levenger.com has what they call a "rocking footrest" which I find=20
very comfortable indeed. It costs about sixty dollars.

I purchased a product from Rubbermaid at Home or Office Depot to rest =
my feet on and improve circulation in my legs while sitting long periods =
at my desk grading, etc. It's adjustable and has "bumps" on the top to =
act as a foot massage. It tilts forward and backward and the height can =
be adjusted. It measures about 18" (wide) X 13". =20

I bought a small maybe 15" x 15" footstool at Wal Mart. Top lifts up =
and I keep our digital camera in it. It works for me. I think the cost =
was $12 - I still see them - top is covered with tapestry.

I use a cheap, kids Fisher Price stool that someone gave me when
their kids outgrew it. It does the trick fine. I would just go for
 something simple.

I looked for a foot stool in antique stores

I found a cute little needle point foot
 stool for about $30.00. =20

Try places like Office Depot, Staples, etc...

I can't give you any recommendations for height etc. - but I suspect you
might be able to pick up something at a used furniture shop - or even at =
an
antique shop for a lot less than an ottoman. Also, you
might find just what you want at a very good price at a craft shop or =
craft
fair. If you are really adventurous, try eBay!

I bought a Rubbermaid footstool at the local discount store and it
works fine for me.

You can get small unpainted wooden footstools at a big hobby store,
then decorate and finish them as you like (school colors?)

Try going to a craft store like Hobby Lobby, or Michaels.
They will sometimes have plain wood ones that you can decorate for =
cheaper than "furniture" ones.
