Firstly, may I thank each and everyone of you who has donated so generously
to this appeal - at last count I had received over 1000 teddies and other
soft toys. It has been such a magnificent response that even though I
intended to respond to everyone individually, I just cannot. So please
accept this as a personal note, and know that you have done a very good
thing. Please pass this on to all your students, families and friends who
were so kind.

I have now only a few large boxes to unpack, tag, photograph and distribute
and I am working my way through these steadily. I have added some more
pages to the website, but two that you will all be interested in, are the
Teddy Truck run that my husband, my mum, the media and I did last Wednesday
when we took 500 teddies to our local preschools and the letter from Sophie
and her mum which encapsulates exactly what I was trying to do.

Our mission has been on television, and in the local papers and I have
received some lovely drawings and messages from the children and their
parents, all of whom have asked me to thank you too.

Tomorrow, I am taking another carload to some of the little settlements on
the outskirts of Canberra that were also devastated, but I go with a happier
heart because last Friday we had REAL rain and already there is a faint
tinge of green on the ground and some of the trees have little buds
happening. There are even a few kangaroos and three emus that have come
back to live in the Nature Reserve which lost its entire animal population,
except one koala who has been christened Lucky and is being nursed back to
health. Mother Nature amazes me with the speed she can wipe out the
landscape, and then, equally fast, repair it. Sadly, it will take many of
the families much, much longer to recover. But we have each helped them a
little along the way.

Again, thank you. .. I shall go and open another box!
