Dear Fellow Librarians: This is my 2nd year in a public school and I'm trying to come up with some activities for Read Across America week. I am in 2 schools, both K-6. Last year I dressed up everyday in my own homemade Dr. Seuss costume and I read a different book at each grade level, we did various activities, such as made a Daisy hat, word searches, created our own goofy characters for Hooray for Diffendoofer Day, colored with little ones. As a school-wide activity, we had guest readers - the principal, superintendent, and police officers. We also had a cake, sold Dr. Seuss hats, some classes had green eggs & ham. A teacher mentioned that in the past they have door decorating in each classroom. What I am looking for is any other ideas that anyone has used that they might recommend, for schoolwide and for library classes. I see each class for 40 minutes. Thank you very much. Wendy S.
