Thank you to all who responded to this query. What I received was positive but I am still wondering about the cultural authenticity. I guess I'll just have to read it and decide for myself. Here are the responses: I read this book and loved it. In the back of the book there is an author's note on the historical background for the story, a glossary and a fairly extensive bibliography - I am by no means an expert on cultural authenticity but it seems to me that it is well written and researched. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ You can find some reviews at http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/detail/-/books/089087333X/review s/002-6123443-6195263 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ John D. It's not very often I find a children's book that teaches compassion, courage, faith, and a deep respect for and oneness with life in such a way that young children really understand these things. All this in a wonderful adventure story that is based on actual historical events, so some American history is also learned in the reading. My 9 yr. old daughter absolutely LOVED this book. It touches your heart. I hope there's more where this came from. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Nancy Riemer Kellner, MLIS Librarian, Marguerite E.
