Hello to All! After one day of posting, I was amazed at the number and speed of the responses. I was asked to post my findings, so to all who would benefit, here are the four pages of replies I've received today. If anyone needs the personal addresses of those who sent the messages, please contact me, and I'll be glad to send them along, but in the attempt to keep this response smaller in size, I left them out at this time. I hope this is helpful! Truly, Michele M. Petrosky, Librarian Western Wayne Middle School Lake Ariel, PA 18436 Chelesfaeriedust@aol.com www.njhire.com posts listings for school openings in NJ. You can narrow the search for library positions - I think it is in the administrative section - but check it out! If you are in eastern PA you might even find something close enough to home. ***************************************** Michelle, For Pennsylvania, try: PA-Educator.net Clearinghouse http://www.pa-educator.net/ and REAP http://www.pareap.net/ ******************************************* Michele - I do not think there is one job bank with all of the school library positions in PA, but here are some places to look for openings: PA Dept. of Education (click on teaching, then job vacancies)www.pde.state.pa.us PSLA has some links from their web site: http://www.psla.org/recruitment/employ.php3 Also, if you attend the PSLA conference in the spring, some schools post their openings on a bulletin board at the conference. School library media postings: http://www.libraryjobpostings.org/libmedia.htm General library job openings: LIB JOBS Listserv: http://www.nasig.org/jobs/libjobs.html School apps: http://www.schoolapps.net/ Some PA library schools may know about job openings. Clarion University has some posted at their web site: http://www.clarion.edu/edu-humn/newlibsci/jobs/html/school.htm Adquest (jobs in general): www.adquest.com Allows you to search for job openings within a certain radius of a zip code you specify. Can be searched by keyword (ex - school librarian, media specialist, etc.). Finally, if you search the LM_NET archives (http://ericir.syr.edu/plweb-cgi/fastweb?search), you'll find a several hits for job searching. ******************************************************** www.psba.org <http://www.psba.org> ******************************************************** I run a jobs web site for Mass. school lms: http://www.mslma.org/newsjobsnotes/jobs.html I used to work in Susquehanna County (Mountain View SD) and I think that there might be an opening at Blue Ridge (if there hasn't been yet) I found the job listings in the psea.org, or the state department of ed not to be as helpful as networking. Are you working as a librarian now? Maybe you could meet up with some people at your next ACCESS PA meeting. Or, did you ask the IU guys who fix your equipment? They really know who's leaving etc. Another place might be the Scranton SD. ******************************************************** A member of The Library Group asked me to post this for her. Please respond to the address shown at the bottom of the job description. Other places to look are on the school library association websites. You can find some of them on the LMNET website at <http://ericir.syr.edu/lm_net/>. A Google search will probably turn up the rest. *************************************************** Dear Michele, You might want to look for websites of the various state library media specialist organizations. The one here in Virginia is called VEMA and they post openings on their site. Good luck! ******************************************************** This one does sometimes, but not specifically school openings. Good luck! http://www.unt.edu/slis/resources/jobs.htm ****************************************************** some schools advertise on the state site www.pde.state.pa.us - others have their own district sites then there are the job sites that cover a larger area also newspapers from major cities - many of which are online there is a shortage of librarians in the state at the present time - there are always ads at spring conference ******************************************* (Pennsylvania School Librarians Association Conference) Michele, Check out Clarion University's site, www.clarion.edu/libsci then click Placement, then Library and Information Science Position Listings or Other Library and Information Science Job Links. ***************************************************************************** You may wish to start with http://www.pareap.net. It allows you to fill in an electronic application that would be available to all school boards in PA. The school boards also have the opportunity to post job openings so that you can check and apply on line. There are several other states who paticipate in this program, including OH and NY, Another source that I have found to be excellent for leads (I have been up and down the east coast this year looking for a job I really want where I am really wanted.) is http://www.educationamerica.net/. This site will allow you to set-up a job-bot that will send you daily emails of job openings. Several Connecticut jobs that have not been listed in either the newspaper or www.ctreap.net, have shown up here. San Antonio, Texas area usually has openings for librarians. Three huge districts plus several other smaller districts within the metropolitan area. ******************************************************** Michelle, have you tried the PSBA site? They post openings for all positions...and probably your principal or superintendent has a printed copy available as well. http://www.psba.org > Employment opportunities > Other professional education vacancies You can also try http://www.teaching.state.pa.us/teaching/cwp/view.asp?a=13& Q=32441&g=140&teachingNav=|93|109|&teachingNav=|1904| from the PDE website. Finally, at least in my old region, your region office of PSEA should have job vacancy lists available for members of PSEA. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=- All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
