I went to a Big6 workshop last week and one of the elementary librarians had a creative idea to show the concept of writing a bibliography of sources used for a project at the third grade level or lower. She called it a, "Thank You Page"--- this is the page where you "thank" all of the people who wrote the books that you used as sources in your report. She said that she would ask them to write the names of the authors, the work title and then, if necessary, the copyright date. This page would be at the end of their report to "thank" their authors for sharing. She also stated that as the students "advanced" to higher grades (4-5) she then began asking that they write the place where the book was published (city and publisher), along with the other bibliographic information. We thought this was a great idea to introduce the reasons why we "cite information"--- to "Thank" the individuals who wrote the books that we used! Thought I'd share! ~Shonda Brisco Trinity Valley MS / US Librarian Fort Worth, TX sbrisco021@charter.net ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bonnie Sharrer" <BonnieSharrer@CS.COM> To: <LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU> Sent: Wednesday, July 16, 2003 12:28 PM Subject: Bibliography lesson > Hello everyone, > > Was wondering if anyone had any 'creative' ideas on how to teach third graders how to write a bibliography. It is part of a unit in which they research a particular state and use various resources. It is a difficult concept for them to understand. Looking for ways to make it simpler and easier for them to grasp.
