I just finished reading Nickle and Dimed (and "Not" Getting By in =
America) by Barbara Ehrenreich. Every librarian in a junior high or high =
school should recommend this book to their math teachers and even social =
studies teachers. It brings home the point that you really do need to =
stay in school because it's hard to make ends meet out there in those =
low-wage jobs. It also offers a scathing review of work at Wal-Mart.

It also gives rise to several topics kids could research in the library =
relative to work life that could relate to math.
