Hi all, I am starting my first year as a media specialist in a K-5 elementary school in Florida. This media center is in need of some tender loving care for sure. We have a fair number of paper back books in the collection. The media assistant and previous media specialist had been shelving the paper back books in a separate section of shelves. I'm not quite sure why they did it that way except to keep same format together. These books are in the catalog with a PB notation. After a brief look through the collection, I realized that some of the paper backs are more current ( and sometimes in better shape) than the hard backs and some are just duplicates.I want to shelve the paper backs back into the regular fiction collection and maybe leave the picture books in a bin for browsing until they get too beat up. I would like to hear how others handle paper backs in the library collection and/or advice about handling paper backs.
