Thanks to all who provided ideas on how to solve my Powerpoint/CD problem. I
have yet been able to get it to work on my home computer, but think it is
because I don't have the correct software. I was able to get it to work on my
administrative computer at school by inserting the music file icon and having it
play the CD directly from the CD player in the computer once the program
started. The new problem is that once I have had it do it the first time, I can't
get it to replay with the music. I am hoping to try attaching my digital
camera and trying again. Many asked for a posting of a HIT, so below are the
recommendations I received. Once again...THANKS!!! TP

-----------

First convert the track to mp3. (There are several programs available that
will do this for you. My choice is Music Match.)

Then you insert the mp3 file onto the appropriate slide. (Insert -- Movies
and Sounds -- Sound from File) Then check all the appropriate boxes so that
the music continues to play throughout the slideshow.

When you burn this onto a CD, be sure and place the music file (mp3) onto
the CD as well.

-----------

I've never been able to successfully copy the CD track but I do know how to
make the CD play during the PPT. On the slide where you want it to begin,
click Insert> Music> Play music from Cd Audio Track. You will get a box for
you to put in the track that you want to use. Be sure to click Loop until
stopped if you want it to continue throughout the PPT. I have also had to
right click on the music icon and then click on Custom Animation. Under
Multimedia Settings click "Continue Slide Show" and More Options. Then be
sure that loop is still chosen. That should do it.

-------------

Make sure the music is in the right format. I'm not sure if that version will
recognize anything except the .wav sound format. (The XP version recognizes a
couple more.) I don't know if it will help any, but I'm attaching a little
handout that I did for my staff. Good luck--working with sound is the worst part
of any part of video editing!!!

--------------

when you insert the music, there is a message that pops up askiing if you
want the music to play automatically or on a mouse click. Choose automatically--
also you must decide if you want the music to play only on that slide or play
as long as the music lasts.
You can decide that in the slide show setup automation boxes......go to slide
show setup--custom animation--multimedia settings and choose while playing
continue slide show or whatever setting you want.

------------

Don't think it can be done. It's best to run the CD music separate from the
Power Point. My experience has been that it gets bogged down and the timing
gets off before the end of the presentation. If you find out otherwise, please
share!!! Thanks,

I did our end of school slide show like this..Did you copy the music to the
hard drive first? I had to do that and then insert into PowerPoint using Media
Player and then insert sound from file...Under one of the icons you have to
make sure you click on "Continue slide show automatically after____slides..Let
me know if you need further help...

--------------

I tried to do that also, but had no luck. Instead I played the music on a
boom box while recording it with my computer mic and saved it as a file, then
brought the file into PP. Of course you can play the CD in your CD Rom drive,
record it using your computer speakers and computer mic and save it.

---------------

If you are running XP, you should have the latest version of Media Player.
Use Media Player to open the sound track from the CD. Then use "Copy from CD"
on the left. The track appears on the screen. Then use "Copy to CD or
Device" and copy the track to your folder with the presentation.

In PowerPoint, Choose Insert Music from File find the path to the saved track
within the folder. When you burn your presentation to the CD, burn the
folder with presentation and the sound track.

I just created 2 PowerPoints this way.

Hope this helps.

--------------

I just completed a video with the help of our MS. We used a boombox, TV, VCR,
Scan Converter and computer(laptop). She used a three way cord to plug the
boombox into the vcr and then played the PPT. As it showed I would hit the track
on the music I needed. We recorded it all. I do not have more details since
she hooked everything up.

Also when inserting music straight to the PPT download the midi file and make
sure you have the music looping and playing automatically. Then if you save
it to a CD I think you need to save the MIDI file also. I am not sure about
this since I got it accomplished by trial and error and sheer luck. Try
http://www.schooltv.com/ for help. These guys are great.

-------------

I think you need to record the CD track first as a wave file, be sure the
wave file is saved in the same folder as the power point presentation. Then try
inserting the wave file into the presentation. If you want it to play
continuously through the whole show, there is a special way to insert it, but I
can't
remember how or where the command is located. Hope this helps.
