SOFTLINK Excellence Award
Seattle, 2 June: The International Association of School Librarianship
(IASL) announces a new award for school library specialists, educators
and/or researchers that recognizes significant contributions to school
librarianship. The award of $US1000, sponsored by Softlink International
(Australia) will be made for the first time in 2004 to an individual or team
nominated by their professional associations and peers.
This international award will take into consideration the significance of
the nominee's achievement in relation to resource context, evidence of their
commitment to school librarianship and impact on student learning and
contribution to professional development of others. Preference will be given
to members of IASL and the award will be determined by an international
awards panel.
The International Association of School Librarianship comprises personal and
association members, from over 80 countries, committed to enabling young
people to develop literary and cultural appreciation and to use information
effectively through the improvement of school libraries and school library
programs as a vital component of education.
