As a Media Specialist in training, the idea of an on-line conference sounds fantastic. What a great way to spread a wealth of knowledge to those who are new to the field and in an inexpensive way. Presently, I am taking an online class in electronic reference at the University of Maryland and while I miss the classroom setting and the lectures, the format has worked well. One of the most effective aspects of this online class is the Electronic Reading Group. Each member in a group presents papers and folks chime in with critiques or comments and then one person summarizes the discussion. I have benefitted a lot from this sort of forum. It might work well for an online conference as well.
