ELEM: cataloguing of Paperbacks and Biographies query

Hello all,
    I am trying to get more user friendly and also
consistent in my library and have been waffling on a
couple of ataloguing and spine label issues.
         While I realize that we sre trying to teach
children the official system, I wonder if it is better
to just go with what is easier for all to follow.
I am in a K-6 school for info's sake.

Hence the following...

Paperbacks....
 1) Do you enter them in the cataloguing program with
all three letters...
       ie PB LIT
     or....
          PB L
 2) If  you enter them in the catalogue as PB
LIT....do you put on the spine label
         PB LIT

          or

          PB L

Biographies...

1) 920 and 921?

         or

   B/BIOdePaola
   user friendly (which is the way all of our public
libraries do it)
