? Need a Book Title

Hi,
I hope you all can help me with the title. I have a student who would really
like to check this book out.I just read this book about a young girl who
gets aids from a blood transfusion. Her father is an astronomer. He makes
friends with a young man with aids named Brian who was a rock musician. For
some reason, I cannot find the book with our online catalog when I put in
aids. The author and title have totally escaped my memory.
A very poignant part in the book is when the main character wants to have
her braces removed before she dies, and it is her father, with the help of
Brian, who find a dentist that will do this for her.
This is not a new book. We have had it for a long time.
