Whilst working with the kiddie gardeners on the difference between ficiton = and non-fiction, I shared Julius, by Syd Hoff. It's one of those books = that stays on the shelf because it is appropriate for beginning readers = and because of the author. BUT... Today I paid attention to the sterotyped depictions of Africans, the "fat = woman" (actually, she's morbidly obese) from the circus, and how all of = the animals want to be taken out of thier environment and be placed in a = circus cage. I could probably list more, but will stop now. An innocent, kid friendly book when it was published in 1959, I woonder = about its appropriateness today. =20 Your thoughts?=20 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=- All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
