GEN: Cataloging the U.S.

Hi, here's a non-political question:

I am new in my library and have my state books in the 917 area- new ones of
course are coming in with DDC 21 (now in 970s). My fifth graders are doing
state reports right now so many of my books are out, but come June I am
thinking I should migrate the numbers on the older ones. Yes, the country
books have a similar problem, but I put the new ones in a display so that
isn't affected, yet!  Plus, they would still be shelved in a similar area on
the shelf so it isn't a problem.

But the states...have any of you had a similar problem? I was thinking of
going through the catalog and making new labels now (patially prepare for
the big job) then just waiting until the end of the year to finish, and
making a new state cheat sheet to attach to the shelf. And also, I found a
chart online, and they have Hawaii in 996? Is this correct??
