How do you know when it's time to retire? This is my 33rd year (6 in English classroom, 27 in library) in education. I love my high school job and have been here for 11 years. But I'm tired, my mother had a stroke last summer and I'm caring for her a great deal of the time, my daughter 4 hours away is having my first grandchild this summer, I've had two eye surgeries in the past year, and yet I'm still torn. We're not dependent on my salary, but retirement pay would be a huge cut. If I were in a classroom, there's no doubt that I'd be gone; if I were still in elementary library, I'd be gone, but I'm right where I want to be if I remain. Those of you who are planning on retiring this year - how did you decide? I have another few days to make up my mind. Have you ever met a librarian who retired who was sorry? Can you tell I'm in a quandary over this? What would you do? Sounds like a "old librarian" joke of sorts: :Circulate or put yourself on the shelf? Thanks for your opinions...
