Maize Thank you to everyone who responded. I now have a good idea of what to = expect along with several resources. Here are the responses: I work in Palm Beach County. There are some job openings right now if = you go on the website. www.palmbeach.k12.fl.us I believe Media Specialists = are in demand right now. You will have to apply for Florida certification. = I don't think the New York certification is automatic, believe it or not. also try: www.teachers-teachers.com Free. I work for Charlotte County which is in SW Florida. I believe at the = moment there is one position open but it is a middle school. You can = check the district website for further information. = http://www.ccps.k12.fl.us Each County in Florida is a school district = and they should have their own websites with employment information. = There is also a State Florida website where you can post your resume, = but I do not have the URL any more. I moved here two years ago and did = not have any trouble getting my Florida license. Most elementary = schools have fixed schedules. =20 If you have a standard teaching certificate from another state that is = in good standing, then you should be able to get certified in Florida = with a minimum of hassle. If you don't want to do school media, you = might look at doing children's library work at the local public library. = SW Florida from Sarasota to Naples is in dire need of children's = librarians. Florida now requires all teaching experience to be counted = when placing a person on the salary scale. If you have many years of = experience and a master's, you'll make 40-50k+, depending on the school = district. The SE parts of Florida (Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade = counties) tend to pay the highest. I work in the Tampa Bay area. I make = $33,500 with an MLS and two years of teaching experience. Yes, it's sad, = but I make more than I would at a public or academic library and I work = few evenings and no required weekends.=20 I'm moving there this July. I was shocked at the LOW salary = there..30,000 for the first 3 years then they put you on your correct step!!=20 http://www.firn.edu/doe/menu/teachers.htm Florida Department of = Education - Resources for Teachers.url=20 salaries are low, comm college requires a masters You can find information regarding the opportunies for Media Specialist = on this site: www.firn.edu/doe/profdev/tttjobs.htm click on "survey results are = provided".
