Re: Summer Reading For US

Two years ago, I spent the entire summer reading the twenty or so
Patrick O'Brian seafaring stories, which start with _Master and
Commander_. These are incredibly engaging reads: not only is
there lots of sealore, but the friendship between the bluff and
hearty Jack Aubrey and his ship's surgeon and sometime spy
Stephen Maturin is a marvel.
This fall, a movie based on several of the books will be released,
starring Russell Crowe. Like the Tolkien folk who waited with great
hope to see what Peter Jackson would make of _The Rings_, the
O'Brian folk are hoping, for all love, that this one will be filmed
with attention and respect.
