The art teacher just came in to my media center after it had been closed up for 1/2 hour (lunch)and commented on the formaldehyde smell. He then informed me that books let off the gas and that a lot of art teachers and librarians die of cancer because of the chemicals they are exposed to in their professions. Any comments, research, information? I do have a very old collection (the media specialist who passed away four years ago from cancer! was a big believer in the historical value of everthing), will it help if the books are weeded regularly? I am a little concerned.
