Salutations,
I have a group of young teens at my public library who like to write fan
fiction based on the Harry Potter series.
We are looking for a Fan Fiction website to submit their stories to. I have
done a Google search on the phrases +"fan fiction" +"harry potter" but I keep
finding sites that accept stories that make this modest old "shusher" blush.
So, it occurs to me, maybe one of you out there has already done this and
know of a more, shall we say, "G" or at least "PG13" rated site?
My wannabee JK Rowlings are a great bunch of kids. There seems to be a lot
of fan fiction out there on the web. But to be honest, I'm also not sure where
copyright law stands on it. Most sites seem to allow writers to register
under aliases and submit the stories. But, on the other hand, if it is illegal,
I'm not sure if I should be helping them continue with our hobby (okay, I admit
it, I write it too, but I do not post it anywhere--we just share) because I
firmly believe disrespect for one law leads to disrespect for them all.
So, I guess I have two questions. Is it legal? Does a youth-friendly site
for it exist?
By the way, I just loved that joke posted yesterday, about the math teacher
arrested for possessing weapons of math instruction. I told it to my circ
department and they threw me out.
