Greetings LM_Netters,

I have been trying to find/remember a story that I learned when I was
younger. It's about a generous prince, who was turned into a statue
(?), but continued to be generous-- would allow sparrows to pluck out
his sapphire eyes, gold leaf skin, diamond bracelet, crown jewels, etc.
to give to the poor. Finally statue was so ugly it was melted down--
after melted down, a heart of gold remained, along with dead sparrows?

Does this ring a bell for anyone? I'd love to find the name and, if
possible, full text. Or, at least a source where I can find the story.

Thanks in Advance!
