Hi Everyone,

I was immediately interested in the idea of an online doctoral program
(I received my MLIS through an online program-- UIUC), but feared that
it was too good to be true-- an idea confirmed by Allan's logical
message below. Would anyone care to describe a little bit more about
the importance of being on campus for doctoral degrees? It totally
makes sense, but I was just wondering if anyone had any more examples of
why being on campus is essential to a good program.

Thanks in Advance,

A doctorally-curious MLIS,

I don't want to start an hornet's nest of chat - BUT, I can't imagine
any Doctoral program worthy of its name that was online. So much of my
program depended on the daily interaction between professors and
students - and, yes, I know there is email and virtual learning, etc.
However, I stick my by belief. I don't believe I would be the person I
am today without Professor Jane Anne Hannigan and Professor Kay E.
Vandergrift.
