Our counselor stopped by the library today and asked if there was a "drug book" that might be appropriate for fifth graders? Upon further inquiry, I determined that she is wanting to read something from a fiction book about a character who is dealing with drug abuse or the temptation of drug use. Although I have information books dealing with drug abuse, she is not interested in those. She wants to read something to start a conversation with the class. Any ideas? (The only idea that came to me was "Go Ask Alice"....because it has been re-issued with a new cover, etc.... but she says it's "too much" for them...especially when I gave her the synopsis....however, I read it when I was in the 6th grade---that was around the time when it FIRST came out...and I didn't do drugs....but later in high school I did hang out with some of the "druggies" as "an examination of the psychology of drug abuse"--- but I digress.) Thanks in advance for your ideas! ~Shonda Brisco Trinity Valley MS / US Library Media Specialist Fort Worth, TX sbrisco021@charter.net =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=- All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
