I didn't have any luck in the archives but it seems we discussed this
a time or two in the past. And it seems someone contacted corporate
B&N and learned there isn't a policy against school librarians. But
I could just be dreaming this. I seem to be doing that more and more
these days. Maybe another old timer from the list recalls....

Our district gives us employee/district identification cards.
The cards simply state we are educators with the district. I show
that. I've always just claimed to be a teacher... because I am one!

The only problem I've ever had was at Borders. I'd chosen an Ursula
Le Guin book. At the check-out, the young woman looked at me and
said, "This isn't a purchase for school. This is a personal purchase."
She said it rather rudely. I told her it was indeed a purchase for
school, that I don't read Le Guin. She said, "No way. No school
would ever teach this book. I went to school here and I know."
Again, her tone was rude and arrogant.

I didn't waste my time trying to discuss the issue with her logically.
I just sat my would-be purchases down and drove across the street
to B&N.
