LM_NET Archive

Thanks for all the great ideas! I was glad to hear that many others =
wanted me to share the ideas that others have used. So here are a few. =
Hope they help everyone as much as they have helped me!!!

I have outlook and it's pretty easy. Right click on the email you want =
to
save and then click on "save to folder". Create a folder name and save =
it.

I edit messages as I read them keeping only ideas I think I'd like to be =
able to refer to in the future. I edit the subject line of the message =
as well listing just what I saved (such as: Junie B. Jones + snow + =
dogs. Later I go back and combine all the info about "dogs" that came =
in various emails and print it out to keep and use later. That might be =
rhymes about dogs, reading dogs, or whatever. Then when I want to do a =
program or storytime on dogs I can go to my binder and see what ideas =
were discussed

You can always find the letters in the LM_NET archive. To do that
easily, you coiuld keep an ongoing word document where you copy and
paste the subject lines of the letters you wish to be able to access
later. Then you will be able to copy and paste the exact subject line
into the archives search box and most likely be able to retrieve the
message you want easily. Another option is to create another folder in
your email program and name it LM_NET archives. Then you can just
transfer the emails you wish to keep to that folder. Or you can open
the email you wish to save, click "file" and then click "save" to save
the entire email wherever you save your other documents. This last
gives you the option of creating a folder for each of your interests,
and saving the emails in an organized fashion. For instance, I have a
folder called "plagiarism" and others called "citation skills", "books
to consider", "reading promotion" etc. and I save pertinent emails in
those folders.

I set my subscription to "No Mail" so now I just go through the current =
month's listings on a daily basis. That way I don't have a ton of email =
coming in to my box!

Another thing I do is copy the contents (or a bit of it) from the =
postings to a blank (no addressee) email. In the subject line I put =
"Books to purchase" (or whatever). Then each time there are some good =
recommendations, I add them to that email and leave it in my Drafts box =
(unsent). I have a "file" like this for websites to check out., recipes, =
etc.

The tricky thing about the archive is finding the item you remembered =
seeing as the months and years go by. I find that usually a key word or =
term (or phrase) does a pretty good job of bringing up what I need. =
Maybe in one of those letters in your draft file you could start a =
database of topics with the specific archive reference number.

I usually check the regular monthly listing ("Dates Sorting"), but =
recently I've alternated and used the "Threads Sorting." This listing =
groups the specific answers to the original post directly under it, so =
you can see all the responses in order. Try it.

have Word documents going on lots of topics, and I do endless cut and =
pasting! For example, I have documents with book recommendations, =
curriculum, and every discipline-math, science, etc. Periodically I go =
back and fix the formatting, and share with staff through email, =
printouts, etc. I mainly use them for myself so that I can easily go =
back and see what I've written before. =20

One example is that I started a document on magazines, and then =
collected all the comments. I eventually used the archives, too, but =
when I was ready to order, I had everything in one place!

You could create a separate folder on your computer - in your My =
Documents
and in there place a document ( Word) that would list the topics you =
want
to remember - then when you want to check something out you can look up =
the
topic, then check the Archives - see the bottom of this email for the =
link.
I do this when I have things I don't want to print out, but want to look =
at
later.
