I have two request concerning first graders and I'll post a HIT if I get any suggestions. I have a first grade group of six students who are academically gifted and I am trying to give them some enrichment in the media center twice a week for thirty minutes. I need some simple research ideas if anyone can make some suggestions of things you've tried. An idea I will try next week is to introduce the dictionary and encyclopedia, then have some questions and ask them which source would be better to use to find the answers. Then in following visits I will have 2-3 questions about a topic we will research, I hope to tie into the SS or Science curriculum. This just seems so boring. If you have any better ideas, I'd love to hear them. Also, does anyone have a great lesson that teaches first graders the difference between real and make believe? I do a whole class lesson, and I used one last year off of LM NET that used the book Sam, Bangs and Moonshine. The lesson was good but I really don't like the story. Thanks in advance, Have a great day!
