LM_NET Archive

Greetings! Although I subscribed to LM_NET a few years ago as part of a class
toward an MLS, it is the request of a colleague to share some conference information
that prompts my first post. Well, that and the need to thank everyone for the
fabulous information provided here. Hopefully I will be able to return the favor
occasionally.

I am currently a Library Specialist in a rural library, but am continuing courses
toward an MLS and work closely with the local public schools and their students.

Sorry this wasn't posted in a more timely manner, but thought the information
might be of interest to some.

I would like to take this opportunity to invite you, your colleagues and

students to a colloquium sponsored by the Center for Children’s Literature

and Culture at the University of Florida, Cultural Services of the Consulate

General of France in Miami, The Alachua County Library District, The Howe

Society and The Baldwin Library of Historical Children's Literature of the

University of Florida Libraries and The France-Florida Research Institute on

April 2nd and 3rd. "Transforming Encounters: Children’s Libraries Unbound"

will explore a range of approaches, new and traditional, historical and

contemporary, of bringing books into children's lives.

Please view our website for the impressive list of international and

national librarians and educators, including Genevieve Patte, Joie Par Les

Livres, Bibliothèque des Enfants, Paris, France and Ann Carlson Weeks,

Professor, University of Maryland, College of Information Studies and the

International Children's Digital Library who will give presentations and

take part in panel discussions. Another local presentation highlights

school, public library and museum cooperation to encourage science literacy

in our elementary and middle schools in Florida. Tours of the Harn Museum

will also be included. These events are free and open to the public. Please

check the website for more information and the for the registration form.
