Dress code? What dress code? I think ours says you must be dressed. You
REALLY gotta love California.

A teacher in jeans and a T-shirt does not raise eyebrows here. At my
previous school we had a math teacher who, even into his sixties, wore
shorts every day no matter the weather. That did raise eye brows. Our
school is a little more formal than most and you see alot more ties and
dresses here than at other sites in the district. I think a lot of
teachers would welcome a stricter dress code. It does affect how the
students and your colleagues see you. But in early September when it is
105 in the shade here in the Central San Joaquin Valley (but it's a dry
heat!) I think ties and pantyhose (not together ;-)) would constitute
cruel and unusual punishment.

I have to say that I was amazed at teachers being required to wear
hose! We
do have a dress code that doesn't allow jeans, but it is not enforced.
We
wear jeans on Friday. During the hot months (April, May, July,
August,
September) we wear capri (right about the ankle) pants, sandals, and
sleeveless tops. We don't wear hose unless the weather is cool enough
to
need the warmth. It gets very hot here in central Alabama. Gotta
love
"Alabama!"
