Dear Curtis
I would have thought that in the US, of all places, shorts for women but not
for men would have been regarded as discriminatory and therefore unlawful!

But I really agree that it is not how we look it is what we do that is the
mark of professionalism.  However there is a reason that there are so many
clichés about first impressions.

With kids having past through their first-job years (in a time of job
shortages) I heard all the arguments about how can/dare the boss dictate
what I should wear but my response was "they sign your pay cheque and if you
don't comply, it will be someone else's they will be signing!"  It worked.
