I really was going to keep my opinions to myself on this one and then
someone mentioned what I was comparing all the dress code rhetoric to in my
head. The Disney Dress Code. In the good ol' days, at least back to 1980,
women were allowed to wear earrings - but only one set and it had to be
smaller than a dime - no hoops allowed. No skorts, dresses had to be below
the knee but no lower than mid thigh. Skin colored nylons, and you did
wear nylons. In Florida. Outside. In the summer. You could also work
double shifts sixty days straight - of course then you received overtime
pay. Maybe that's why I don't mind wearing stockings inside an air
conditioned building, not taking extra days off and dressing neatly. I
don't 'dress' on the days the students are not there - and I don't 'dress'
for conferences - but the students are who I work for and I believe I
should present a professional, not dressy, not formal, but professional,
appearance when they are there.
