Dear Shonda
I am posting this response to the list because it might offer others some
brainwaves about introducing databases to their staff members - a
just-in-time opportunity!

Assuming your databases cover the topic, the easiest things that spring to
mind for the PE people are the Olympics and the drugs-in-sport issues, which
are both current topics of conversation right now - and given the Olympics
are in Athens, there is scope to explore about Ancient Greece and its
mythology for other teachers. Maths teachers could be involved by having
students construct timelines and there is a realm of statistical information
that can be used from tracking performance records, to medal tallies and
comparisons, to costs for holding the event. Mapping the venues, planning
how you would get there from your home town. Technology teachers could look
at the design and structure of the stadiums (stadia?); create scale models;
evolution of construction materials while your home economics (or whatever
you call them) could look at the evolution of performance fabrics; design
uniforms and so on.

Once their brains start ticking they should be able to see dozens of
opportunities for real-life problem posing and solving that require students
to have background knowledge available to them via the databases. Emphasise
the 24/7 access both they and their students have, and the inherent
attraction of ICT to students for doing research.

Good luck
Barbara
